Tasks: The intern initially will be working in understanding core systems and processes, then translation of simple documents (e.g. birth certificates, driver’s licences etc.) and then on to editing of more complex translations. Tasks: Become familiar with the different activities being undertaken by volunteers at the sanctuary and work alongside other volunteers. Work to further the sanctuaries vision of a fenced pest free forest for the enjoyment of all visitors. Help at events to promote the sanctuary to the public.

Requirements: The employer would like the candidate to be interested in the outdoors and conservation, be physically fit, be enthusiastic, be a clear communicator, show initiative, be able to work independently at times, appreciate and promote the need for a sanctuary and the vision of community conservation and advocacy.

Tasks: A zoo is a pretty unique and varied place so the jobs and tasks reflect that. Depending on aptitude and attitude the intern will be involved in a wide variety of tasks from general presentation work, assisting in food prep, creative/building tasks (creating enrichment for the animals), help in the gift shop and helping keepers on section where appropriate.

Requirements: Must be punctual and hard working with the ability to listen and follow instructions. Training will depend on the ability and attitude of the intern – this will be assessed during the first week or two.

Working with children / Social

Tasks: The intern will gain experience working with young children in a New Zealand early childhood setting. They will be expected to become familiar with the organisation policies and the regulations under which early childhood services operate in New Zealand. The intern will act under the guidance of the head teacher of the Kindergarten. Typical tasks would include supporting the teaching and learning programme, helping with tidying tasks, and participating in planning and learning conversations where necessary.

Requirements: All interns are required to have a current Police Vet and have a successful Identity Check (which can be undertaken in the Association Office). The intern will work alongside the teaching team and learn through their modelling and conversations.

Duration: min. 6 weeks

Tasks: The intern will work in a team of teachers with children aged 6-8 years. The intern will provide support for children and teachers by assisting with lessons, supervising groups of children and being helpful in the classrooms.

Requirements: The intern should have a desire to work with children and to help them grow in positive ways.

Duration: min. 1 school term (usually 10 weeks); not possible during the New Zealand summer holidays (mid December until end of January)

Tasks: The intern will help a teacher by resource preparation and in-class support of students, assist extra-curricular programmes, translating and mentoring support of a German national.

Requirements, visa, tips

  • A high level of English – to verify this we require the submission of the following qualifications: IELTS or Cambridge certificate, time spent in an English speaking country or a high grade in English on your school certificate. If none of the above documents can be provided, you are able to attend New Zealand language course.
  • Please note that our New Zealand internship placements are always voluntary, so you will have to provide for your own food and accommodation (e.g. living with one of our New Zealand host families).
  • For an intensive New Zealand work experience you should schedule at least eight weeks for your internship.
  • Within your application please state precisely in which area you would like to complete your New Zealand internship – this is the only way we can find a suitable placement for you.

For an internship in New Zealand you must qualify for a New Zealand Working Holiday Visa or a Student and Trainee Work Visa. Most Working Holiday Visa are valid for 12 months (e.g. for Germans) or 6 months (e.g. for Austrians) after the day of your entry. It is possible to leave and re-enter New Zealand during this time. However for a Working Holiday Visa you may apply only once in a lifetime.

Requirements:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, capable & flexible person to work and learn the day-to-day operations of a busy city Backpacker’s Hostel. We require a Superstar who would like to learn how we exceed guest’s expectations, creating memorable experiences and help build on our base of regular guests who keep coming back for more. Ideally we are looking for someone who has had some training in Hospitality and or Guest service and can multi task, prioritise, keep calm under pressure and demonstrate good common sense and initiative. Most of all we want to find someone who would enjoy the chance to work in an environment where every guest is here to have fun and we get to share it with them!
Hours of work will be a mix of shifts, days, weekends and flexibility is a must.

Attend an internship at a small Hotel in Nelson. Starts usually from September, runs at least until end of March.

Key tasks

This is a small family business and the intern’s work will involve general day to day tasks required of the business. These include daily room servicing and room change-overs, guest check-ins, guest breakfasts, helping guest with activity and dinner bookings, website updates, work at functions, training and coordinating the assistant housekeepers/work exchange students (1 – 2 temporary staff). They may also include internet research and marketing and function bookings.

Employers Expectations

  • Good interpersonal skills, confident English, reasonable computer skills, hospitality experience, food service experience.
  • Reliability and resourcefulness are important.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and work as part of a team are essential.
  • General tidy appearance is required for guest interaction.

Hours of working

  • Daily working hours from 9.30am to 1pm (work exchange for room and breakfast) and approx. 4pm to 6 or 7pm on some days (paid).
  • Work on 6 days per week is required.
  • Total hours to be worked per week:  25-30 hours

Remuneration

  • The intern will receive free accommodation and breakfast in exchange for the morning hours worked. Some additional afternoon hours will be paid. Min. pay will be NZ$50/week.
  • Live in position with the family. Own room and bathroom within the main house. Shared activities available. The intern can use the kitchen and a separate fridge to make own lunch and dinner. All cooking preparation equipment is available.
  • The intern will also have the opportunity to earn additional money by working  an extra 3-4 nights/week in the many local restaurants that are all walking distance from the hotel.
